VIDEO alpaca sports - just for fun

ALPACA SPORTS JUST FOR FUN

To celebrate the release of the already sold out 7'' out via Luxury and Dufflecoat, Alpaca Sports made this video with the most adorable creatures in the world: no surprise... alpacas! I mean, FUCKING ALPACAS!!!
Now you merge a lovely indiepop tune like Just for Fun with this animals and, well... you have an irresistible poppy combination.

FYI: the digital release will be out in two days (March, 22). Meanwhile, in case you don't know this promising swedish project, check this post.

saying things you don't want to hear

my darling you! ~ saying things you don't want to hear ( luxury records, 2009)

another swedish duo. another mix of electronics and guitar. but this time we're talking about something more into pop-punk than the pop-dance influences.
christoffer and klas make addictive songs with claps and hooks and witty and fun lyrics. as klas once said, their music is about:
“nights out, nights at home, and the day after”.
i have to say that their latest releases weren't that exciting to me. in 'saying things...' they seem to be back on track even though there's a lot of experimentalisms. but i still miss songs that take you by surprise and are so energetic that you can do anything else but let yourself go along with it... good examples are 'taxidriver', 'prince john silver & gold' and 'bad times are on'.
the theme of the songs we know very well: love and heartbreaking seen from a very peculiar point of view; already a trademark of my darling you!.
the songs from this ep go from dance music to distorted guitars and screams. all that in 5 songs.
not their best, but quite enjoyable...

caught the breeze

boat club ~ caught the breeze (luxury records, 2007)

some time ago i made a post talking about citytlights... well, now i'm gonna talk about two guys who were in the band and now play under the name boat club.
so far they've released a mini album called caught the breeze. it's the best example of balearic music (well, to me at least): airy, uplifting, warm, ethereal, crystalline...
the songs are filled with layers of noises, keyboards, mid-tempo beats and awesome (awesome!!!) crystal guitar hooks.
the lyrics are also pretty good, always evoking a certain warmth and reminiscenses from a melancholic summer. for instance, you'll get yourself singing over and over "i loose my mind for warmer climes(...) cause you, you can't fake the sunshine" and then humming the guitar that follows this verse in 'warmer climes'.
another catchy chorus can be heard in 'always away', a more melancholic song with andreas singing that "you're always away on rainy days" with his soft, cool voice.
boat club is music that comes from the ocean...
