ABADABAD CALIFORNIA BIRDS

After talking about Abadabad's latest release - The Wild EP - and some non stopping listening, I felt like making a video for one of their songs.
While, 'All The Bros Say' is the must listening song from the EP, 'California Birds' was the one that inspired me. Well, timing played a big part on it: the song was playing while I was going through some movies and when I saw the name Winged Migration, it wasn't very hard to connect the dots between movie and song.

According to Abadabad, it is a rad mix of trippy birds. Couldn't describe it better.

The once California duo Crocodiles (now a quintet), will release their 3rd album Endless Flowers on June, 4th via their new record label: the german Souterrain Transmissions (also via French Kiss, on the US).
Earlier this year, the first single 'Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9)' was made available for download on Soundcloud.

Here's an 'Infomercial Teaser' for the album release. A preview of all the 10 songs from the new album can be heard throughout the almost 2 minutes of the video. For what we can hear, expect a more melodic and still noisy sound.

Yesterday, an intimate session for This is Fake DIY revealed two new tracks of the upcoming album and a revisit on 'Stone to Death' from their awesome 2nd album Sleep Forever (2010).
(bear with the 30 seconds ad before the actual session. It's worth the wait).

FRENCH FILMS YOU DON'T KNOW / PRETTY IN DECADENCE (they shoot music don't they, 2012)

A collective formed by pop enthusiasts take us to different cities in  Europe and films intimate sessions under the name: They Shoot Music Don't They. If the idea wasn't amazing enough, the bands featured are incredibly great.
Now, as part of the Vienna Sessions, French Films takes over a wine tavern and performs You Don't Know and Pretty In Decadence to an audience of elderly and drunk men.

TEASER. M83

While the buzz builds towards the release of an 'epic, dreamy, powerful and intense' new album - that according to Anthony Gonzalez it'll have the project going back to the sounds of 2005's album Before the Dawn Heals Us - a little video was released last Thursday with a small sample of sounds.
There's not much to talk about the music itself, but the video... oh the video... it's a fantastic collage of images filled with the M83 aesthetic of observation, big cities and nature...

VIDEO la estrella de david. un último esfuerzo

La Estrella de David ~ Un Último Esfuerzo (2011)

David Rodríguez is the musician I admire the most when the subject is spanish music. Actually, he is part of my 'Spanish Trinity' formed also by La Bien Querida and Joe Crepúsculo. The coincidence is that they tend to work together... David plays with and produces La Bien Querida's albums and has a project with Joe Crepúsculo called Junco y Diamante. They're all from Barcelona.
I first heard his music back in 2005 or 2006, when someone sent me a few songs from him... it was pretty demo-ish, lo fi... but I was completely addicted to it. In January, 2007 I went to an eurotrip with Fernanda and Leonardo (my roomates) and while in Barcelona, the only thing I'd listened to while strolling around the city was his music (specially 'La Chica Más Guapa de España').
Then in 2007, he released his debut album and it was a glorious album, to say the least, even though nobody paid attention to it.
Now there's 'Maracaibo', his new album, released by Canada. 13 songs with the signature of David, putting together hints of traditional music, indiepop, distorted guitars and lyrics filled with an infectious romanticism.
This is music that touches you deep, whether by its melodies and/or lyrics. In case you need a reason to start speaking spanish, here's one...
You can listen the album on Spotify...
... and watch the video of the first single 'Un Último Esfuerzo', starring David, La Bien Querida, Joe Crepúsculo and Jordi Irizar paying an homage to The Jesus and Mary Chain.

music to see #14 (hardly art records edition)

Hardly Art is a small label from Seattle and has a few good names in its catalog. Been listening La Sera and Hunx and His Punx almost everyday for some time. You can check a few of them now...

First 2 videos from La Sera, a project from Katy Goodman from Vivian Girl making sunshine surfey indiepop with reverberations...

Then Hunx and His Punx in all his glorious lo-fi queerness...

Psycho folk act Fergus & Geronimo with a beautiful video collage...

And to finish our little tour, Arthur and Yu with an escapist and (almost) road movie-ish video.

New single of the swedish electronic duo was released today. The song is part of their debut album that'll be released on April,25 on Geffen Records.

VIDEO la bien querida. hoy

In 2008, 'Romancero' pleased our ears and hearts with love and catalan sounds. It was La Bien Querida's debut and now, 3 years later, she's back with 'Fiesta', due to be released on March, 7th via Elefant Records.

'Hoy' is the first single and - I know I should say something - but the feeling is intangible... or maybe I'm simply scared to trap the song into inherent words.

'Qué será la muerte? / me preguntaste un día / y no te sube contestar / si la muerte es mirar y no verte / que la muerte es mirar y no verte''
"What is death? / you asked me someday / and I couldn't tell / if death was to look and don't see you / death is to look and don't see you"

Many of you fellow Replacements - nerds will recognize the homage to the seminal anti-video "Bastards of Young".

Paste Magazine is offering free download of 'Queen Turner', song from Broken Bow, Eux Autres' new album.
Where It's At Is Where You Are Records, on their november free download session, released an exclusive version of 'Go Dancing' and 'Molly', recorded live at WMBR in Cambridge.

So here's both videos: Eux Autres' 'Go Dancing'...

...and The Replacements' 'Bastards of Young'.

once again, ok go blows our mind with an extraordinary video... this time, with friends!

espiritu santo

delafe y las flores azules ~ espiritu santo (video)

once there was a group called facto (marc barrachina) delafé (oscar d'aniello) y las flores azules (helena miquel). a trio from barcelona making music mixing hip hop, beats and indie pop.
facto left the group and a few days ago delafe and las flores azules released their first album as a couple/duo called 'delafe y las flores azules vs. las trompetas de la muerte.
the first single is called 'espiritu santo' and if you're experiencing the first warm breath of summer, this song is the perfect soundtrack.

i was going to post an album from the danish act oliver north boy choir, but after seeing that it was requested to a few blogs to remove the download link i decided to abort the first idea and make a special video post about the band. apparently they create, direct and edit their own videos.
ps: the band don't exist anymore (sadly...)

the videos here are taken from a few concerts in hamburg, germany. there's this nice project called hit the north that promotes and features live shows from bands coming from the north... i had the pleasure to work with them in march when i made a video for the hari and aino concert.
sometimes the party happens in a club, inside a theater and sometimes on a boat, at the hamburg port.
